Who We Are
Welcome to Mackinaw City Bible Church! If you have ever been to the Mackinaw area, you know that we have been greatly blessed by God’s creative hand. What beauty we enjoy!
For the last 68 years, God has allowed this Bible-believing church to proclaim God’s Word. We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs of the past and the present. We teach and preach from the New King James Version. If you come to Mackinaw City on a Sunday or Wednesday, we hope that you will join us in worshipping our Lord Jesus Christ. The object of this church is the ministry of the Word of God for the salvation of souls, the edification of Christians, the world-wide proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the promotion of Godly worship, the defense of the “Faith Once Delivered”, and cooperation with Christian activity.
What We Believe
Our Beliefs & Statement of Faith
Scripture – We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed. (II Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:20, 21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12, 13.)
Trinity – We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Deut. 6:4; II Cor. 13:14.)
Salvation – We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. (Eph. 2:8-10; John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; I Peter 1:18, 19.)
Eternal Security – We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1,38,39; I Cor. 1:4-8; I Peter 1:5.)

Nurseries & Child Care
Nursery facilities are available for children ages three and under during all services.
Wed Prayer Meetings
Join us at 7:00 every Wednesday for Bible study and prayer meetings.
Children’s Ministries
Sunday school is available for children in preschool through 12th grade.
Men’s Breakfast
Join the men for breakfast year-round on Saturday, 9:00am (once a month).
Missions Ministries
Our church is grateful for the opportunity to actively support missionaries world-wide.
Ladies Bible Study
Fellowship with like-minded women on Tuesday mornings, once a month, 9:00 (Oct-April).
Meet The Staff
Our Leadership
Matt trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at age seven while attending Maranatha Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. He later studied Sacred Music and Bible at Fairhaven Baptist College in Chesterton, Indiana, preparing for full-time ministry. After moving to the Mackinaw area in 2017, Matt interned at Mackinaw City Bible Church while caring for his grandmother, completing his internship in 2018. He continued his studies through Fairhaven Baptist College, earning a Master’s Degree in Bible on May 1, 2026. On September 6, 2026, Matt Quick became Senior Pastor of Mackinaw City Bible Church following Pastor Nelson’s retirement.
Matt and Hannah treasure the Nelsons’ example to them of 42 years in ministry and are grateful to now serve together as Senior Pastor and pastor’s wife.

Reid & Robin Nelson
Former Senior Pastor
Reid Eugene Nelson trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior at about ten years old, and during his teenage years, God began leading him toward ministry. He attended Bob Jones University and graduated in 1976. After marrying Robin Van Vliet, Reid served for eight years at Calvary Baptist Church in Roseville, Michigan, as Youth Pastor and later Assistant Pastor. In May 1984, Reid accepted the call to pastor Mackinaw City Bible Church, where he faithfully served the congregation and ministered to many summer visitors for 42 years.
On September 6, 2026, after 42 faithful years of ministry at Mackinaw City Bible Church, Pastor Nelson retired from the pastorate and Matt Quick was installed as Senior Pastor. Reid and Robin are not moving away at this time but are taking some much-needed time to visit missionaries and spend time with family.
